GIS applications compute analytical results comprised of geometric measures such as perimeter, distance between objects, and area. Usual practice operates in Cartesian coordinates on map projections, inducing a systematic variation due to scale error. The magnitude of these errors is easy to foresee, though rarely corrected in analytical reports. Solutions to this error can be implemented though a number of alternative procedures.
